The Bombay High Court on Tuesday ordered the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to complete its ongoing inquiry and finalise the decision to file an FIR within two weeks in connection with the Adarsh Housing Society scam.
The court order comes nearly 48 hours after the Union Environment Ministry ordered demolition of the 31-storied apartment at Colaba for violation of green rule.
The controversial high-rise was originally meant to be a six-storey structure to house Kargil War heroes and their kins but was later extended to 31 floors allegedly without mandatory permission.
Accusing the society of violating the spirit of Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) laws, Environment Minister Jairam Ramesh said that the society ‘should be removed in entirety and the area restored’.
The Environment Ministry had earlier served a notice to the housing society asking it why the illegal floors in the building should not be demolished.
Details of the court order is awaited.
