Eight die as building collapses in Thane

At least eight people, including four children, were killed and three others injured as a portion of a five-storey building came crashing down in a township in Ulhasnagar, on the outskirts of Mumbai on Tuesday evening.

The building, ?Sheesh Mahal?, collapsed at 5:30 in the evening and rescue workers could only save three lives.

Media reports said rescue and relief operations went late into the night as several people were still feared to be trapped under the debris.

The building, constructed some 15 years ago, was undergoing repairs when a slab collapsed, reports said. Those killed were residents of third and fourth floor.
