Fire destroys lubricant at IOC depot in Navi Mumbai

Mumbai : About 40,000 to 45,000 litres of lubricant was burned when a massive fire engulfed an Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) depot in Navi Mumbai on Tuesday.

Reports received here said some hundreds of firefighters were still at work to douse the leaping flames at IOC’s depot at Taloja.

Official sources said there had been no casualty in the fire, which was first noticed around 1 AM by the locals, who raised alarm immediately.

Police said 50 firefighting vehicles were pressed into the service to fight flames, which were nearly under control about five hours later.

Firemen said the flames could not move fast because of the inflammable lubricant, which caught fire.

The huge quantity of lubricant was stored in separate containers with capacity not beyond 200 lts each.
