Former bureaucrat Subhash Lalla resigns in Adarsh scam
A former Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer on Monday became the latest casualty of the Adarsh Cooperative Housing Society scam as he quit his membership of the Maharashtra State Human Rights Commission.
Former bureaucrat Subhash Lalla, whose kin has a flat in the Society, submitted his resignation to Governor K Sankaranarayanan at Raj Bhavan.
“The Governor has accepted Lalla’s resignation,” a Raj Bhavan spokesperson said.
Lalla was the secretary in the Chief Minister’s Office when the Housing Society’s file was being processed in the state secretariat.
He was reportedly asked by Maharashtra Chief Minister Pritiviraj Chavan to resign.
After politicians and defence personnel, bureaucrats are now in the net of suspicion in the Adarsh housing scam.
At least 21 former bureaucrats are being asked by Maharashtra government?s General Administrative Department (GAD) about their roles, if any, in handling the Adarsh file.
The ex-babus are also being asked if their sons or daughters were members of the society and the source of funds.
Among those under the scanner are: former municipal commissioner JM Phatak, (still in service in Delhi), former city collector Pradeep Vyas (retired), former city collector IA Kundan (still in service), former chief secretary DK Sankaran and his wife Joyce Sankaran, former BEST general manager Uttam Khobragade (still in service), current Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation commissioner Swadheen Khastriya and former transport secretary CS Sangitrao (still in service).
Chief information commissioner Ramanand Tiwari has also been asked by Pritviraj Chavan to resign after it was revealed that his immediate family was direct beneficiary in Adarsh.
Tiwari was the Urban Development secretary when the Adarsh file was being processed.
The Adarsh society flats were originally meant for war widows and their dependants but former defence officers and kin of powerful politicians and bureaucrats ended up getting membership.
Ashok Chavan was forced to quit as Chief Minister last year after it was revealed that his kin including late mother-in-law, owned flats in the Adarsh society.
