Mumbai police sanitising city before Obama’s visit

Ahead of US President Barack Obama may visit here, Mumbai police are taking no chance frisking all and everything they find danger to a foreign dignitary.

The city police have already frisked hundreds of lodges, guesthouses and paying-guest houses to sanitize the area for Obama’s November 6-7 visit .

Obama will be staying at Hotel Taj Mahal Palace and Towers, Colaba, along with his entourage of security guards and US officials.

The Taj, Nariman House and Cafe Leopold, all in Colaba, were targeted by the 10 terrorists from Pakistan on November 26, 2008.

As many as 18 foreigners, including four US nationals, were killed in the attacks.

?? We are frisking any doubtful element and all hotels, paying-guest houses, lodges and checking records of all those staying there,?? Mumbai police control office said.

” The frisking is one of the precautionary measures to ensure safety of common people as well as the visiting foreign delegates. All foreigners visiting the area will be monitored.

The entire Taj has been booked for the president and his staff.

?? There are around two dozen small hotels and guest houses around the hotel. We have asked them to keep records and documents provided by a visitor”, police said.

City police chief Sanjeev Dayal said he was unaware of Obama?s itinerary .

?? We have not been told anything about the places Obama will be visiting, the route he will use etc,?? Dayal said.

Mumbai police do not even know whether Obama would use a helicopter or car to travel from airport to Taj hotel.
