New faces to lead Congress in Mumbai: Reports

The Congress was unlikely to re-elect graft-accused Mumbai chief Kripashankar Singh and could go for young politicians in an attempt to project a clean image, media reports said on Saturday.

The Congress was under pressure not to re-elect Singh, who?s term just expired, as the chief of the party?s Mumbai division in light of corruption allegations cropping up against him.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had traced financial transactions between Singh and former Jharkhand minister Kamlesh Singh, an aide of former chief minister Madhu Koda.

The names of young party leaders like Milind Deora and Priya Dutt were doing rounds as the top probable candidates being considered for the job. Senior Congress MP Eknath Gaikwad was also on the party?s list, reports said.

With Mumbai civic elections less than a year away and a hammering defeat in Tamil Nadu largely attributed to corruption allegations against its ally DMK on its mind, the Congress could take a decisive decision soon, analysts said.
