Police arrest 4 in Kaskar firing case

The Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) said they have arrested four people in the killing of the underworld don Dawood Ibrahim brother Iqbal Kaskar?s driver last Tuesday night in Mumbai.

The man was killed at Pakmodia street on May 17 in what initially seemed an attack on Kaskar by a gang. However, police later said that Kaskar was not the target and he was not even present there.

Police late on Tuesday said that the four men arrested belong to the Umaeed Sheikh gang and were former members of the Chhota Rajan gang. The four men apparently helped in procuring the weapons used in the attack.

Reports last week said two men came on a bike and fired before attempting to flee. One of their bullets hit Kaskar?s bodyguard Arif and another his driver. The gunmen however were caught as their bike skid and a crowd surrounded them.

Police officials said the two gunmen were apprehended. Three weapons, live ammunition and cartridges have also been recovered, police said, adding that it did not seem like an attack on Kaskar.

Even though he is reported to downplay the Dawood-connection, Kaskar himself was linked to a murder case. He is also the only sibling of the underworld don to be tried by an Indian court after being accused of in the Sara Sahara case of land-grabbing.

He was acquitted in 2007 due to lack of evidence.
