Shiv Sena youths attack Chinoy college

Exams had to be called off in Chinoy College after activists of Yuva Sena, the youth wing of the Shiv Sena, attacked the college at Andheri in Mumbai on Friday, TV reports said.

Led by Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray’s son Aditya Thackeray, the right-wing youth organisation took on the college because authorities had refused to allow 10 students, with less-than-required-attendance, to sit for the exams, an NDTV report said.

Like its parent organisation, the Yuva Sena too is known for its anti-establishment violent outbursts. Last year they had raised protests against a book taught under the Mumbai University?s B.A. curriculum.

The book ‘Such A Long Journey’ by Rohinton Mistry, said to have ?objectionable references? to references to Shiv Sena and its founder Bal Thackeray, was ordered to be withdrawn within 24 hours by the university?s vice-chancellor in the middle of the term in October.
