Nagpur: College girl, Monica Kirnapure, stabbed to death

A 21-year-old girl Monica Kirnapure, a student of an engineering college in Nagpur, was stabbed to death on Friday in broad daylight.

The incident indicates an eerie rise in brazen crimes against women as it comes within days of 20-year-old Delhi University student Radhika Tanwar’s killing in front of college in full public view.

Kirnapure, a third-year electronics student of Rajashree Mulak Engineering College, lived in the Pratibhatai Pawar Women?s Hostel at Nandanwan in east Nagpur.

She was on her way to her college at 11 am when two unidentified youths, who were apparently following her, stabbed her from behind and fled.

As she lay in a pool of her own blood asking for water, nobody offered any help till one Sumedh Wanjaari saw her and rushed her to a nearby private nursing home where she was pronounced dead upon arrival.

The reason for the murder is still unclear but it could have been carried out a by a miffed lover, media reports said.

According to reports, Monica had complained to college authorities about a boy harassing her but no action was taken. So far no one has been arrested over the incident.
