Pune : Two people have been arrested here with a large cache of arms, including nine country-made guns and 80 live cartridges, a top police official said Thursday.
Yogesh Shinde (32) of Hadapsar and Sohansingh Ramgadia (30), a resident of Dattawadi area of the city, were arrested Wednesday and remanded to police custody, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Rajesh Sonawane told the media here.
The firearms seized from the duo included five pistols and four revolvers.
“The weapons have the ‘Made in USA’ label on them to fool prospective buyers. The total value of the seizure is estimated around Rs.2.75 lakh,” Sonawane added.
During interrogation, the accused revealed that they had visited the Gadital area of Hadapsar Wednesday to meet a prospective buyer of the weapons.
Sonawane said the police were trying to find out the source from where the weapons were purchased and the prospective customers and market for the firearms.
While Ramgadia is a known history-sheeter, Shinde does not have any criminal record and works in a small shop in Hadapsar, police said.
