Flood situation slightly eases in Assam with the Brahmaputra river

Guwahati : The flood situation in Assam slightly eased with the Brahmaputra river maintaining a falling trend in some places, while water level of its tributaries continued to rise in Barak Valley on Thursday, officials said.

In Barak Valley, water level of Barak river continued rise and crossed the danger level, inundating Cachar, Karimganj and Hailakandi districts, where over six lakh people were affected.

The Central Water Commission on Thursday said the Brahmaputra river is flowing below the danger level in Goalpara, Golaghat, Sivasagar, Dhubri districts.

But, the Brahmaputra is still flowing over danger level at Guwahati, Numaligarh, Lakhimpur, Dhemaji, Sonitpur, Dibrugarh, Jorhat, Morigaon, Majuli.

Over 15 lakh people of 11 districts in the state have been affected in this wave flash flood.
Two people died in the current wave flood in the state so far.
