11-year-old killed in school bus accident

An 11-year-old student was killed 20 others were seriously injured when their school bus collided with a truck in Rajasthan’s Ajmer district Tuesday, police said.

According to the police, the incident took place in Rupangath town of the district, some 150 km from Jaipur. The driver of the truck is absconding.

“The bus of Mewar Senior Secondary School in Rupangarh was on its way to the school after picking up children from their houses when the mishap occurred in the morning,” a police officer said.

He added that there were about 30 students in the bus. “The bus collided head-on with a truck approaching from the opposite direction. Class 6 student Kanaram was killed on the spot while 20 others were injured,” the officer said.

He added that six of the injured sustained serious injuries following which they were admitted to a hospital in Ajmer.

“A case has been registered against the truck driver who escaped from the spot leaving the vehicle,” said the officer.
