Four cops arrested in fake encounter case
Four Rajasthan police officials were arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Friday over the staged killing of a notorious criminal Dara Singh nearly five years ago.
The arrests of one inspector, two sub-inspectors and one assistant sub-inspector come after the Supreme Court had rapped the investigating agency for making slow progress in nabbing the culprits for purportedly staging the fake encounter in 2006.
A criminal from Churu district, Dara Singh was gunned down in 2006 by an 11-member team of the Special Operations Group (SOG) of the Rajasthan Police on the outskirts of Jaipur.
Singh?s family had file a case against the killing, calling it a staged encounter. Last year the case was handed to the CBI by the Supreme Court.
Apart from the four arrested on Friday — Nisar Ahemad, Rajesh, Satyanarayan Godara and Surendra Singh — two senior Indian Police Service officials and a former Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) minister are also said to be involved in the case.
