HC puts down Gujjar?s job quota demand

Jaipur : The Rajasthan High Court on Wednesday dismissed the Gujjar community?s demand for five per cent reservation in government jobs.

Even as the community stepped up its protests demanding more special provisions, a division bench of Chief Justice Arun Mishra and Justice Mahesh Bhagwati riled that members of Gujjar community cannot be given special reservation in government jobs.

The HC asked the state government to conduct a survey within a year on the educational and employment status of Gujjars, Raikas, Raibari and Gadiya Lohar communities to establish their backwardness.

Gujjar leader KS Bainsla has, however, said of intensifying agitation if its demands are not met.

Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has said he was prepared for talks with the community leaders to break the deadlock.

The Gujjar latest protests have affected rail and road traffic in the state.
