Third round talks on Gujjars agitation

A solution to the vexed 5 percent job reservation for Gujjar community in Rajasthan is likely to emerge on Friday, even as the agitation of the ethnic people for social security entered its 12th day.

The Gujjar leaders heeding to the government’s requests to sit across the table for a negotiated settlement on the vexed issue have agreed to hold a third round of talks later in the day.

Colonel (retired) Kirori Singh Bainsala, who is spearheading the movement of the Gujjars, said late Thursday that he would send a 21-member delegation to hold talks with the committee of state ministers comprising Home Minister Shanti Dhariwal, Transport Minister B K Sharma and Energy Minister Jitendra Singh.

Col Bainsla said he may not be in the delegation.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot reviewed the law and order situation and expressed satisfaction on the second round of talks.

The Gujjar protesters, who largely disrupted life in Rajasthan and other parts of the states for past 11 days by blocking vehicular traffic and locomotives, have eased the agitation in support of the talks.
