The incident took place late Tuesday night at a Tikaria village in Banswara district, some 500 km from Jaipur.
Police said Deepika, a Class 8 student at a government school, was rebuked by her father Dhanpal Yadav, a famer, for not studying well.
“Yadav told her to concentrate more on studies. However, the father did not hurt her physically,” a police officer said.
“During investigation, it has come up that feeling hurt over father’s remarks, she rushed out and jumped into a well situated behind her house.”
The girl’s body was fished out close to midnight Wednesday and doctors declared her brought dead at a hospital, he said.
The father had also jumped into the well to rescue her. But he had to be rescued by villagers and was rushed to a hospital in a semi-unconscious state, said the officer.
