Jaipur : The Project tiger in Sariska received a major set back when a big cat died in the sanctuary in Rajasthan, official sources said on Monday.
” A 5-year-old male tiger was found dead in the reserve on Sunday,” they said without elaborating the causes of untimely death of a tiger, whose population is dwindling rapidly in India despite million of dollars being spent for increasing the number.
In an effort to revive the population of the big cats in the sanctuary, two tigers and three tigresses were set free in Sariska, after being brought from Ranthambhore in the past two years.
In 2004, there was a big hue and cry when it was reported that no tigers were being sighted in Sariska Tiger Reserve.
There were no indirect evidence of tiger?s presence too then since pugmarks, scratch marks on trees etc. were not found.
