DMK-Congress alliance is strong: Kanimozhi

Chennai : The alliance between the DMK and Congress is strong, said Kanimozhi, daughter of party chief Karunanidhi on Sunday amid speculations over the status of the tie-up following the A Raja controversy.

“As far as I know the alliance between Congress and DMK is very strong and very good,” Kanimozhi told a TV channel in Chennai amid growing pressure on the Congress to remove A Raja as telecom minister following the 2G scam.

Asked if she would step in as the next telecom minister, Kanimozhi said: “You are talking to a member of the parliament who will be a member of the parliament.”

She said DMK need not worry about the alliance, but the Left parties should bother about it since their alliance partner AIADMK has expressed wishes to support the Congress at the centre.

With the clamour for removal of A Raja over the 2G scam gaining momentum, senior Congress leaders on Sunday remained evasive on the possibility of axing the tainted telecom minister.

The party, however, held a high-level meeting on Sunday with the Prime Minister to discuss the issue.

“No cover up and no witch hunt,” said Defence Minister A K Antony in Thiruvananthapuram when asked whether Congress would remove Raja or ignore the protests.

In New Delhi, Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee said whatever is to be spoken on Raja will be spoken in Parliament.

In the Congress high level meeting at Parliament House Sunday, Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh, party chief Sonia Gandhi, Pranab Mukherjee and Ahmed Patel, Political Secretary to the Congress President, were present.
