Jayalalithaa to probe all DMK projects

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Friday ordered probe into all projects undertaken by the previous DMK government.

Her decision comes after the AIADMK government allegedly found financial irregularities in the construction of the new Assembly-Secretariat complex by the DMK.

“There have been allegations of excess and wasteful expenditure and deficiency in the standards of new Secretariat building,” Governor Surjit Singh Barnala said in his address to the legislative assembly session.

Over Rs 1000 crore was allegedly spent by the DMK in constructing the new complex.

?We will set up a commission, to be headed by a retired high court judge, to inquire into the alleged irregularities like excess expenditure, inordinate delay and deficiency in standards of construction,” he said.

?For the time being, all project works will be stalled for the sake of inquiry,? Barnala said.

Meanwhile, Dravida Munnettra Kazhagam (DMK) leader MK Stalin said the party is ?not afraid? for any inquiry.

“We have faced many such inquiry commissions before we are not scared of any such commission. There needs to be a straight path for development, but this government seems to be taking too many diversions,? Stalin said.

?The Governor?s address is a mixture of policies. There is nothing new in it. Only Karunanidhi’s policies have either been changed or replaced,? he said.

The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) chief took oath as the chief minister of Tamil Nadu for the third time on May 16, after winning a thumping majority in the state assembly elections.
