Karunanidhi takes oath as MLA

Dravida Munnettra Kazhagam (DMK)chief M Karunanidhi took oath as a Member of the 14th Assembly of Tamil Nadu on Monday.

He will represent Thiruvarur constituency.

The former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and former Law Minister Durai Murugan had skipped the oath-taking ceremony on May 23 as they flew to Delhi to meet Karuna?s jailed daughter Kanimozhi, who has been named as co-conspirator of 2G spectrum allocation scam by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

Karunanidhi and Murugan took oath on Monday before Speaker D Jayakumar at the state Assembly.

The DMK lost heavily the elections in Tamil Nadu this month. J Jayalalithaa in Tamil Nadu returned to power as her party All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) bagged 203 seats against 31 by DMK in state assembly polls conducted in April-May.

Meanwhile, Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) is the principal Opposition party of Tamil Nadu, with actor-turned-politician Vijayakant as the Leader of Opposition.
