Lucknow : Taking a serious view of the persisting grim power situation in the state, the Uttar Pradesh government Monday suspended 16 engineers of the power department.
The decision was taken at a high-level meeting in which Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav reviewed the performance of the power department.
The 16 engineers, suspended with immediate effect, include three superintending engineers and 13 executive engineers, while action has also been ordered against an engineer who retired in July this year.
An official told IANS that these engineers were found to be guilty of dereliction of duty, failing to meet the revenue targets set for them and not taking interest in redressal of people’s problems.
Akhilesh Yadav also issued directives to improve the power situation on priority basis and warned officials that callousness in work would not be tolerated at any cost. He instructed officials to provide better services to consumers, expedite revenue realisation and effectively stop power theft.
