Rape accused BSP MLA Purshottam Naresh Dwivedi still free

Uttar Pradesh police are yet to execute Chief Minister Mayawati’s order to arrest the suspended ruling Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) MLA, Purshottam Naresh Dwivedi, accused of raping a minor girl at Banda last month.

Police claim to be clueless about the whereabouts of the lawmaker, who allegedly raped the backward class girl and then framed her in a false theft case when his criminal act came to light.

The police officials have justified the arrest of the girl in the theft case.

The Chief Minister summoned officials of the Crime Branch and CID, who are investigating the case.

A preliminary inquiry by the CB-CID found that Dwivedi had raped the teenager and framed her in a false theft case.

The girl, who appeared before civil judge junior division Ravi Kumar Gupta, had alleged in her statement that Dwivedi raped her twice while his aides teased her, prosecution officials said.

An FIR under sections of 376, 354 and 506 of the IPC was registered against the prime accused and three of his supporters at Kotwali police station in Banda.

UP Cabinet Secretary Shashank Shekhar Singh said in presence of State Director General of Police (DGP) Karamveer Singh that action would be taken against the legislator.
