Buddha slams CPI-M leader for Mamata

West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee on Saturday slammed Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI-M) leader Anil Basu for using derogatory comments against Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee.

While campaigning for the ongoing West Bengal Assembly elections at Hooghly district?s Arambagh sub-division, Basu on Friday accused Banerjee of corruption and compared her to sex workers.

?The sex workers in Kolkata?s Sonagachi area don?t look at small babus (clients), when richer ones enter their rooms. Why should Mamata take money from Chennai or Bangalore when America is funding her,? Basu said in presence of senior party officials and a massive crowd.

Reacting to Basu?s statement, Bhattacharjee said: ?This is disgraceful. I have warned him not to utter such comments against anyone.?

?I don?t want to hear such language in future,? the CM said.

West Bengal is undergoing staggered six-phased Assembly elections that began on Apr 18.

The total number of voters in West Bengal taking into account all six phases is 5,60,91,973.

The counting of votes will take place on May 13.
