A fire broke out at the Howrah railway station – the second-oldest and the country’s largest railway complex – Sunday but it was quickly doused. No loss of life or property was reported.
“A fire broke out at the new complex of the Howrah station which houses the current booking office. Two fire engines were pressed into service and the fire was extinguished shortly. No loss of life or property has been reported,” a railway spokesman said.
Opened in 1854, the Howrah station is served by trains from the Eastern and the South Eastern Railways. It is one of the busiest junctions in the country.
