Jairam Ramesh to visit elephant accident site

Minister of State for Environment and Forests Jairam Ramesh would be visiting the elephant accident site at Banerghat near West Bengal?s Jalpaiguri district on Friday.

He would be arriving at Bagdogra airport at 12.20 hrs and would visit the elephant accident site at 15.30 hrs.

After night stay at Sukna, (Siliguri) the minister would depart for Delhi at 10.10 hrs from Bagdogra.

Seven elephants ? four adults and three babies ? were killed when a goods train mowed them down near Binnaguri in north Bengal’s Dooars area of Jalpaiguri district, taking the biggest ever toll of animals in a single mishap.

While four jumbos were killed on the spot on Sept 22 night (about 23 30 hrs), three others succumbed to their wounds on Sept 23 morning.
