Kolkata : The Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) on Friday accused the Congress of condoning corruption in the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government by its inaction against Telecom Minister A Raja, allegedly responsible for the 2G scam.
The Congress was into ‘number game’ on the issue, said CPI-M Polit Bureau member Sitaram Yechury referring to the former’s unwillingness to challenge the DMK on the issue.
”They are always in number game like they were in the time of the Indo-US nuke deal,” said Yechury.
Demanding Raja’s ouster on the 2G Spectrum scam, he said after being indicted by the CAG, the minister should be axed without delay.
On the BJP’s demand for a Joint Parliamentary Committee(JPC) to probe the graft, Yechury said, ”We do not mind a JPC and further investigation. But the Prime Minister should remove him first.”
Yechury also demanded removal of the Central Vigilance Commission chief in connection with 2 G allotment.
”He was the Telecom Secretary and dealt with 2 G Spectrum,” he said.
Yechury was in Kolkata for a programme on November Revolution.
