Metro train derails at Central in Kolkata
Kolkata : Many commuters fell sick after a Kavi Najrul station bound Metro train from Dum Dum derailed near Central station in central Kolkata on Wednesday, triggering panic and disrupting the underground services, officials said.
Police said two wheels of a rake jumped the rails forcing the packed moving train to rock violently as it screeched to a halt in the morning peak hours.
Eyewitnesses said fire was also noticed underneath the rake and black thick smoke bellowed out affecting the commuters in cramped compartments.
Police and fire brigade personnel evacuated the sick people to a hospital where they were treated.
Train services between Dum Dum and Esplanade were suspended.
Hydraulic machine was deployed to restore the train on rails.
