WBIDC gets new headquarters to woo investors

Kolkata : West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee, in a bid to attract greater investor interest in the state, inaugurated the new headquarters of the West Bengal Industrial Development Corporation (WBIDC) at Camac Street here on Monday.

?Today there is an intense competition between all the states to attract investment. The differentiating factor thus is the quality and the speed of service offered. This a step in that direction,? said Subrata Gupta, managing director of WBDIC.

Built at a total contract value of Rs 19.22 crores, ?Protiti?, or ?faith? in Bengali, has a total built-up space up space space of 3128 sq metres and is fitted state-of-the-art facilities to provide a modern work environment, said government officials.

The building also incorporates special measures to minimise the impact on the environment.

Commerce & Industries minister Nirupam Sen said, ?No effort has been spared to make this building modern and up to date. We are very happy with the way the organisation has functioned so far and we want to continue to improve the services.?

?With the increase in commerce and industry in the state, there was need to upgrade the standards of the organisation. A better place was needed for headquarters of WBIDC,? said Bhattacharjee.
