Woman empowerment necessity for nation: Pratibha Patil

Kolkata : President Pratibha Devisingh Patil on Wednesday said that as the women and men are the two wheels of the nation, women empowerment is necessary for the nation?s prosperity.

She was addressing as the Chief Guest at the Platinum Jubilee celebration of the All India Marwari Federation in Kolkata today.

The President called upon the Marwari community to play an active and important role to ensure women empowerment.

Patil iterated the role of Marwaris like Jamunalal Bajaj, Ghanashyam Das Birla during freedom struggle and urged the present day Marwaris to take more active part in eradication of poverty.

M.K. Narayanan, Governor of West Bengal released a Special Cover on the Platinum Jubilee celebration of the All India Marwari Federation and presented it to the President.

MP Sudip Bandopadhyay and S.K. Chakraborty, Chief Post Master General were also present on the occasion.
