Left done nothing in 34 years: Mamata Banerjee
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Saturday slammed the Left Front for ?doing nothing? for the state in its 34-year rule.
?I called all the departments, particularly health, land and land reforms, power, agriculture and education. After detailed discussions with secretaries of those departments today, I found that the Left Front has practically done nothing during its 34-year rule,? Banerjee told reporters.
She said her ministry will make sure all projects are implemented on time.
?Political affiliations delay government orders. We believe in speedy work and we will make sure everything happens on time,? she said.
Banerjee will meet all District Magistrates (DMs) and Superintendants of Police (SPs) on Tuesday to review the law and order situation of West Bengal.
Banerjee on Saturday held a series of meetings with her council of ministers and respective departments to get a first-hand knowledge of the state of affairs in the administration at secretariat Writers? Buildings.
On her second day in office, Banerjee reached the secretariat at 12 noon and immediately called meetings with her departments. She also had a meeting with chief secretary Samar Ghosh.
?Don?t follow me everywhere, don?t click my pictures?let me work?I had lots to do,? she told media while entering her office with Mayor Sovan Chatterjee.
The newly-appointed ministers also formally took charge of their respective departments and held meetings with their respective secretaries.
Banerjee has kept major portfolios to herself, while allocating the rest to her new council of ministers.
After a late night meeting with her new cabinet on Friday, Banerjee decided to keep nine departments to herself-Home, Land and Land Reforms, Information and Cultural Affairs, Health and Family Welfare, Agriculture, Hill Affairs, Minority Affairs and Madrasa Education, Personnel and Administrative Reforms, and Power.
Banerjee took oath as the eleventh Chief Minister of West Bengal on Friday and gained control of Writers’ Buildings, the red-painted edifice of power in the heritage hub of Kolkata.
