Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee here on Wednesday inaugurated a new luggage trolley service at the Howrah station.
The one-year pilot project will provide assistance to senior citizens and women passengers with their luggage through uniformed attendants called ?Rail Yatri Sevaks?. The service will be run in collaboration with State Bank of India and will be charged Rs 35, the Ministry of Railways said.
Banerjee also flagged off a special exhibition train ? ?Vivekananda Express? ? showcasing the life and philosophy of Hindu spiritual leader Swami Vivekananda from the Howrah station on Wednesday as a tribute on his 150th Birth Anniversary.
The train consists of air-conditioned coaches in which photographs and write-ups are exhibited to project the life, work and message of Vivekananda.
Also on the occasion, the Railway Minister laid the foundation stone for an archery and table tennis academy in a follow-up to an earlier announcement.
“By establishing an archery academy in Kolkata, Indian Railways will achieve the twin objectives of providing world class training facilities to our existing sportspersons as well as tapping into the vast talent resources available in the eastern region of India,” the Railway Ministry said.
On Wednesday, Banerjee also flagged off three new express trains ? Rampurhat Intercity Express, Howrah-Suri Express and Shalimar-Baripada Intercity Express.
