Singer Lopamudra Mitra unveils new album
Popular Bengali singer Lopamudra Mitra had a special moment of happiness on Monday afternoon as her latest Bengali album ‘Monfokira’ was unveiled in the city by legendary classical vocalist Shubha Mudgal.
“I never thought that the singer whom I have always admired, will be there beside me, to release my album. It is surely a dream come true to me. I just requested her once to come and she is here. It is indeed a great moment for me. I am really happy,” she said.
Shubha Mudgal on the other hand appreciated the compositions and added that she is one of the fans of Lopamudra Mitra.
“It is a lucky thing to invite a fan and I am the fan who is lucky to get the chance to unveil the album of Lopamudra,” Mudgal said.
“The music has a different feeling. It moves you completely, infact the compositions touches your heart,” she said, speaking of ‘Monfokira’ which is Mitra’s second folk album.
Speaking on the album Lpopamudra mentioned: “I have always tried to offer something different to my listeners and the album contains our evergreen Bengali folk songs presented in a new and fresh way, I hope that the listeners would support me just like they have done in the past.”
“The compositions, specially the musical part, is not completely experimental but a spiritual thing,” she added.
Shubha Mudgal mentioned that she feels that the difference or divide between regional and national music should be removed and people should get the fair chance to know the regional singers and compositions.
“I feel that it is unfortunate that even today somebody like Lopamudra, who is a national treasure does not get that exposure. While, like me, a student of music should get more chance to know about regional music.If we can respond to Western music then why not regional music. Regional music need to be shared,” Mudgal added.
Apart from Mudgal, noted personalities like, Srikanto Acharya, Anindya Chatterjee, Upal Sengupta, music director Joy Sarkar were present at the album launch on Monday afternoon.
Singer Srikanto Acharya said, “A lot of traditional songs will get revived in this album. Surely Lopamudra’s style of singing will add to it. I feel that it matters who is singing the songs. There is spontaneousness in her singing style.”
Released by Orion Entertainment, the album ‘Monfokira’ contains eight tracks and the sound design of the songs has been created by Indraadip Dasgupta.
