Against the backdrop of 11 central trade unions calling a nationwide strike Feb 28, a public suit was filed in the Calcutta High Court Thursday urging the West Bengal government to ensure essential services on the day of the protest.
The petition was filed by high court advocate Rajdeep Mazumdar on behalf of Kolkata resident A.R. Niyogi. The case will come up for hearing Friday.
“We have prayed before the Calcutta High Court to issue necessary orders to the West Bengal government directing it to ensure the availability of essential services during the strike on Feb 28,” Mazumdar said.
The ruling Trinamool Congress in the state has already opposed the strike.
