Ten picnickers die in accident

Jalpaiguri (West Bengal) : At least 10 people were killed and 12 others wounded when a pick-up-van carrying picnickers collided head on with a truck at Binaguri in north Bengal on Sunday night.

Police said on Monday the toll might go up as seven critically injured, admitted to Jalpaiguri district hospital, were fighting for life with multiple fracture on vital body parts.

The mishap happened when the open-hooded van, returning to Sonapur from Chamurchi,slammed into the truck coming from opposite direction in the darkness throwing up all picnickers out of the vehicle.

All the victims were youth and residents of Sonapur under the Banarhat block in the Binaguri region.

The Bodies were sent for post mortem on Monday.
