At least three people were killed in an indiscriminate firing in the industrial town of Asansol in Burdwan district on Thursday, which West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee blamed on coal mafia.
The shooting took place in an under construction building in Asansol. One seriously injured person is fighting for life, reports said.
Banerjee said the anti-socials strengthened in the area owing to political patronage.
“We will punish them severely. We will find out who are behind it. We will strongly deal with it,” said Mamata Banerjee.
“I am holding a high level meeting with the top police officials,” she said.
She said deaths cannot be compensated but there would be immediate release of compensation for the families of the deceased.
She said illegal mining and coal mafia dominance will be fought in the area.
