Two die in Bengal violence in West Bengal’s Burdwan district

Two people were killed and over 35 others including some cops were injured in clashes between the Communist Part of India (Marxist) and Trinamool Congress in West Bengal’s Burdwan district on Wednesday.

Police resorted to firing after being attacked with bombs and stones at Jotsadi village, under Raina police station, Superintendent of Police R Rajsekharan said.

The clashes broke out between the two supporters of the two rival political parties over the occupation of an area.

The deceased, identified as Hasmat Mullik (35) and Kajol Molla (30), are said to be the supporters of the Trinamool Congress.

Police said they fired when their 12 men were injured in stone-pelting.

The injured, both the civilians and policemen, were admitted to the hospital.

Meanwhile, the Trinamool Congress has demanded arrest of West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee blaming him for inciting the violence.

The party also called to observe one hour “Black Day” between 3 pm to 4 pm across West Bengal on Thursday to protest police firing and arrest of the killers of their two activists.
