Uttarakhand disaster: Control rooms opened

Chamoli (Uttarakhand)/ Kolkata (West Bengal) : In view of the smooth conduction of rescue and rehabilitation works and to ensure the safe deposition of the trapped tourists in the state, the Disaster Management Authorities of Uttarkhand Government has opened a number of control rooms all over the states.

It may be mentioned that a large number of tourists, mainly from Kolkata and its suburbs, have been trapped at various places in Uttarkhand with the water level in the rivers continuing to rise and important roads closed because of landslides in various parts of Uttarkhand.

On Tuesday, the National Advisory Council (NAC) Chairperson Sonia Gandhi made aerial survey of flood affected areas of Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand with Defence Minister AK Antony.

Gandhi made aerial survey of Haridwar, Bijnore, Saharanpur, Moradabad and Rampur.

The Army has deployed four columns along with specialised boats to help in the rescue and relief operations in Uttarakhand since September 19. 138 civilians have been rescued by Army columns at Laksar near Haridwar.
