Andhra Pradesh: Telengana protests hit train services

Hyderabad : Train services in Andhra Pradesh were hit as protesters demanding separate statehood for the Telangana region blocked rail tracks on Monday as part of their “rail roko” agitation.

The dawn-to-dusk agitation by the Telangana Joint Action Committee (JAC) led to to services of at least eighteen passenger trains from capital city Hyderabad to be cancelled, media reports said.

The South Central Railway (SCR) has rescheduled and cancelled about 25 express trains amid fears that those passing through the Telengana region might be affected the most.

Trains passing through Vijayawada, Warangal, Guntur and Secunderabad are also expected to be hit by the demonstrations.

The police too issued a statement saying it was gearing up to the protests and warning the demonstrators.
