Kolkata : Four people were arrested Sunday in connection with the sensational Behala murder case here in which the body of a woman, her son and two domestic attendants were found with their throat slit in a house Thursday, police said.
The prime accused Munna Dhali, an employee in the cable television business office of the family, and his three accomplices were rounded up from two areas on the city’s outskirts, a police official said. Behala is a locality in south Kolkata, where the incident took place.
The four were presented in a lower court which remanded them to police custody till Sep 21.
“The four had gone to the residence of the Bhattacharyas as they were under the impression that the family had stacked Rs.five lakh in the house. The maids, who knew Munna, opened the door and the four miscreants went to the first floor and started chatting with the octogenarian Gour Bhattacharya and her son Dipak,” an official said.
“But when they tried to break open the almirah, Dipak objected, and he was badly beaten up by the four. Gouri was also severely beaten up with blunt instruments. But as Munna was known to the mother and son, the miscreants slit their throats to make sure they were dead,” police sources said.
The miscreants then came down to the ground floor and killed the domestic help and an attendant in the same manner before fleeing.
The bodies of Gouri and Dipak were found lying in a pool of blood on the first floor of the house. The bodies of the domestic help and an attendant were lying on the ground floor.
