Bihar: 6th phase poll ends with 51% votes

The sixth and final phase of voting in the Bihar state Assembly polls concluded with an estimated 51 per cent people exercising their franchise on Saturday.

An estimated 51 per cent cast their votes in 26 of the state’s 234 constituencies to decide the fates of a total 426 candidates that went to the polls in the final phase.

Meanwhile, two security personnel were killed Saturday morning in a landmine blast.

A Bihar military police constable, Anil Singh, and a homeguard were killed on the spot when a landmine went off as it was being defused near Londa village, under Imamganj Assembly constituency, in Gaya district.

Six other BMP constables and three journalists were also injured in the incident.

The Maoists also triggered a minor blast in Bawandeo area in the same district, injuring one jawan.

The banned outfit had given call for boycotting the polls in the state.

A total of 18 constituencies, including Gaya, Aurangabad and Buxa, are Maoists-affected.
