Patna : Ahead of the second phase of Bihar elections on Sunday, five security personnel were killed on Friday in a Maoist attack in the Sheogar district Bihar.
According to reports, four paramilitary personnel and a station house officer of the Bihar police were killed in the landmine explosion by the red rebels near the Shaympur Bhitta Police Station area of the Sheogar district.
Slamming the attack as an ?act of cowardice?, Bihar Assistant Director General of Police P K Thakur said that the explosion occurred as the personnel were returning from a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) camp.
The securitymen had were visiting the camp in connection with the security arrangements for the Sunday election when the blast took place near a culvert, Thakur added, saying investigations were going on and more details were awaited.
The attack comes in a little over 36 hours before the Maoist infested district goes for the polls, and with four more phases to go, voter confidence is being seen as a serious casualty.
