Former Uttar Pradesh Chief Secretary Neera Yadav, who was sentenced to a four-year imprisonment in a land scam case last week, was granted bail by the Allahabad High Court on Monday.
Yadav, along with industrialist Ashok Chaturvedi, was found guilty for illegal industrial land allocation in Noida while she was the chief executive at the New Okhla Industrial Development Authority (NOIDA) during the 90s.
The Ghaziabad Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Court had slapped the sentence on her for illegally allocating plots to Chaturvedi?s company Flex Industries Limited.
Wife of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Mahindra Singh Yadav, Neera Yadav became the first Indian Administrative Services (IAS) officer to be ousted from her chief secretary post by the Supreme Court in 2005 on charges of corruption.
Also flagged as one of the “most corrupt officers” in a 1997 poll by Uttar Pradesh IAS association, she maintained that she is innocent and did not commit any wrong during her tenure.
