Cufew clamped in Srinagar

Curfew has been imposed in seven police station areas of Srinagar as a precautionary measure on the day of Muharram on Friday.

Superintendent of Police, Srinagar, Ashiq Bukhari said the curfew had been clamped by the district administration in Kothi Bagh, Maisuma, Kralkhud, M.R Gunj, Safa Kadal, Nowhatta and Khanyar areas.

There would be no traffic movement from Jehangir Chowk to Dalgate Bridge via M.A Road and from Jehangir Chowk-Hari Singh High Street-Residency Road up to Radio Kashmir Crossing.

Traffic movement would not be allowed also in the old city areas, the SP said..

Meanwhile, moderate Hurriyat Conference chairman Mirwaiz Umer Farooq was taken into preventive custody along with a dozen supporters on Thursday night.

He was shifted to his Nigeen residence after his threat to defy restriction orders and attend Friday prayers.

Mirwaiz and 15 activists of Awami Action Committee (AAC) were arrested from the Mirwaiz manzil, the AAC claimed.
