Deccan Chargers blown away by Sehwag’s ton

Deccan Chargers were blown away by a breezy century by Virender Sehwag as Delhi Daredevils won by four wickets in the Indian Premier League (IPL) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium at the Uppal here on Thursday.

Man of the Match Sehwag scored a 56-ball 119 as Delhi Daredevils made 179 for six in reply to Deccan Chargers’ 175 for five.

It was a tough total for the Daredevils to chase, but Sehwag made a mockery of it with his bravado as he tonked the Deccan Chargers bowlers to all parts of the ground and the Delhi team achieved the target with an over to spare.

With the top four batsmen adding just 14 runs, Sehwag took it on himself and singlehandedly demolished the Deccan Chargers. He smashed 13 fours and six sixes. He was severe on his former team mate Amit Mishra, who gave away 53 runs from his four overs.

The only two Chargers bowlers who commanded some respect from Sehwag were Dale Steyn (2/24) and Ishant Sharma (2/16). Sehwag finally fell to Steyn caught behind by Kumar Sangakkara. Irfan Pathan (12) and James Hopes (17 not out) then took Daredevils to home safely.

Earlier, put in Deccan Chargers cruised to a challenging 175 for five in 20 overs. Jean Paul Duminy was the top scorer with 55 while skipper Sangakkara made 44.
