England keep hopes for next round alive

In a crucial league level match against West Indies at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, England defeated their opponents by 18 runs to keep their World Cup hopes alive.

Batting first England posted 243 runs for the loss of all wickets in just 48.4 overs.

Trott remained the highest scorer for England with 47 runs.

AD Russell bowled brilliantly for West Indies as he picked up 4 wickets by giving away only 49 runs.

Chasing a target 244 for victory, West Indies could reach only 225 runs for the loss of all wickets.

Tredwell remained the pick of the English bowlers as he picked up 4 wickets by giving away only 48 runs.

“We’ve pulled out results when we’ve needed them. We are still waiting on other results, but hopefully we’ve done enough to go through,” English skipper Andrew Strauss said at the end of the game.

“It shows the spirit in the side, great credit to James Tredwell and Luke Wright who have been waiting in the wings. We have to be more clinical, but for the time being tonight we’ll enjoy this victory,” he said.
