Explosives kill two children in J&K

At least two children were killed and another was injured in Machil sector of north Kashmir?s Kupwara district when an explosive they were fiddling with exploded, the police said on Thursday.

Seven-year-old Mudasir Hussian and 14-year-old Zakir Hussian who lived in the Chontiwara village lost their lives early Thursday while fiddling with an explosive, which they had found in a nearby field.

The explosion also caused splinter injuries to a nine-year-old girl Gulshan Bano who is recuperating in the hospital, the police said.

Meanwhile in a joint operation by the police, the army and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), a large quantity of ammunition was recovered on Thursday near a stream located between the villages of Gundarvaish and Amarbug, in Shopian district.

The ammunition including Pika, AK and RPG rounds, RDX explosives, Chinese grenades, was recovered Thursday morning from the area which falls under the jurisdiction of Shopian Police Station.
