Four arrested for burning alive Orissa’ Pownex Steel manager

Bhubaneswar : At least four people have been arrested for allegedly burning alive a senior official of a private steel plant Pownex Steel in Orissa’s Titalagarh town, said police on Friday.

“Four people were arrested in connection to the murder late Thursday night,” District Superintendent of Police AK Sarangi said on Friday.

“Efforts were on to nab the other culprits,” he said.

The Deputy General Manager of Pownex Steel died in hospital on Thursday after being burnt alive by a group of dismissed workers in Orissa’s Titalagarh town.

The Deputy General Manager?s jeep was torched by the angry workers, most of whom were either suspended or dismissed, while he was in it at around 1 pm in the afternoon.

The workers who sat protesting in front of the mill, apparently stopped the Manager?s jeep when he was coming out during the lunch break and asked his driver and colleagues to get out and then set the vehicle on fire.

The manager was admitted to a nearby hospital with 90 percent burns at around 4:20 pm and later succumbed to his injuries, media reports said.
