Govt to extend Organising Committee tenure

The Centre decided on Monday to extend the tenure of Commonwealth Games (CWG) Organising Committee till further notice even as the CAG announced submission of report within the next three months.

“The Centre has decided that the committee can continue their tasks till further orders by the Government,” Union Urban Development Minister Jaipal Reddy said on Monday, after the meeting of the Group of Ministers (GoM).

Reports said that the Sports ministry will choose when the committee will wrap up.

The meeting of the GoM was attended by Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, CWG Organising Committee Chairman Suresh Kalmadi and Sports Minister M S Gill.

Reddy told reporters that the GoM had not discussed the corruption charges that haunted the recently-concluded CWG event at the capital.

However, Reddy was non-commital over the allegations and counter allegations between Sheila Dikshit and Suresh Kalmadi over the CWG corruption issue and added that the
GoM was happy with the way CWG was conducted successfully in India.

Earlier in the day, the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India announced submission of its audit report on the recently-concluded Commonwealth Games (CWG) within three months.

?We will complete the audit process and submit the report in 3 months. It?s going to be a gigantic task, where at least 20 different institutions will be involved in the process,? CAG chief Vinod Rai had said.
