Kolkata : Amid anti-ICC slogans and black flags, a team of the International Cricket Council (ICC) inspected the Eden Gardens preparations for the World Cup matches on Monday, eight days after the cricket body ruled out holding of the India-England match of Feb 27 here owing to the tardy progress of renovation work.

The ICC team comprising three members inspected the Eden Gardens, officials said.

But outside Eden Gardens there were chants of anti-ICC slogans by a group of local cricket lovers.?

The protesters shouted “Go Back ICC” and “Down with Sharad Pawar (ICC president)” as the three-member ?team inspected the ground in the morning.?

Earlier, in a?letter to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), the ICC had outlined a schedule of works that needed to be carried out at Eden Gardens ahead of the ground?s other scheduled fixtures on 15, 18 and 20 March.

While cricket fans of West Bengal were crushed by the relocation of the key match from Kolkata to Bangalore, a blame game immediately started after the ICC decision to junk the ground for the Fen 27 match with the detractors of Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) president Jagmohan Dalmiya holding him responsible for the fiasco.

?

The India-England clash was to be the only match featuring the co-hosts in Kolkata and the other scheduled clashes mostly feature minnows.

South Africa-Ireland (March 15), Netherlands-Ireland (March 18) and Zimbabwe-Kenya (March 20) are the other games scheduled at the venue, but Kolkata might lose even those even preparations are not complete in keeping with ICC parameters.
