Ind-Nz Test : Ahmedabad Test ends in draw

A brilliant century by Harbhajan Singh helped India fight back from the verge of defeat and draw the first Test match against New Zealand on Monday.

Things looked really tough for India as they stood at 82 for the loss of 6 wickets on Monday morning.

But it was a confident Harbhajan, well supported by V V S Laxman (91), who guided India to a comfortable position on the fifth and last day of the match.

Harbhajan scored his maiden Test century, as he slammed 115 runs on the board before getting out to Taylor.

He hit 11 boundaries and 3 over-boundaries in his well-crafted and entertaining innings.

But after Laxman and Harbhajan perished, the Kiwi bowlers hardly took any time to pick up the remaining Indian wickets.

Martin, who had destroyed the mighty Indian batting line-up almost single-handedly, failed to repeat the magic on Monday.

He did not pick up any more wickets on the fifth day and his spell stuck to 5 wickets at the cost of 63 runs.

Ross Taylor and skipper Vettori took 2 wickets each to wrap up the Indian innings at 266 runs.

Chasing a target of 295 runs, New Zealand lost an early wicket as T McIntosh (0) got out to Zaheer Khan, without scoring a single run.

Indian skipper Dhoni sparked some audience interest in the otherwise dead game as he left aside his keeping gloves and bowled one over.

Dhoni gave away 5 runs in his over.

The match was finally called-off when the Kiwis were 22 for the loss of 1 wicket.

Brendon McCullum (11*) and BJ Watling (2*) remained not-out till the end.

Harbhajan Singh was declared the player of the match.
